One thing about news outlets developing journalism tools in-house is that they're not always made available to the public.
This is why open source products are highly sought after, as they give any newsroom or individual the chance to try them out.
Ahead of the NICAR 2016 conference taking place in the US this week, a group of Knight International Journalism fellows have rounded up 12 open-source tools they developed during the programme, published on IJNet.
For example, HackDash is a platform that can help you keep track of projects at a hackathon, and Wazimap provides easy access to election data in multiple locations.
